Industry 4.0 and IoT are becoming increasingly common in production environments for uniformly merging process data from components from different manufacturers at the control level.

But many controllers, components and machines do not offer the required network connectivity.

On older machines, operating status is generally indicated by means of potential-free contacts. With our Web-IO Digital products you can monitor such contacts, capture them from the control level using the integrated OPC UA server and further process them there.


Preparations


Configure Web-IO for access via OPC UA

To enable access via OPC UA, the Web-IO must already have an IP address.

  • To change the configuration of the Web-IO you first need to obtain the necessary access rights by entering the administrator password.

  • First check whether all IP parameters are correctly configured. Especially when the Web-IO is located in a different subnet from the accessing application, it is important that a gateway be entered. To do this, go to the menu tree and select Basic settings >> Network and there Basic network settings.

  • All the configuration changes must be confirmed using the Apply button.

  • To configure OPC UA access, go to the menu tree area Communication paths >> OPC UA.

  • Enter the access data and the authentication procedure for OPC UA access as they are given in the OPC UA application.

  • If you also want to operate the outputs using OPC UA, enable them correspondingly for switching.

  • The OPC UA application can now connect to the Web-IO and using OPC UA browsing query and manage the IO- and OPC UA node inventory.

  • The values and states of the individual nodes can then be specifically called up using the Node-ID.

Now you can incorporate even older machines and devices into a homogenous OPC UA environment.
