Application example for the serial Com-Server:
RS232 line driver from Bonn to Berlin
without any additional expenditures, directly over the existing network
When the revision board asked why there were several lease lines and dial-up lines between the location, in addition to the intranet, the technicians realized that every adapter was already connected to all other adapters across the entire company.
The details
In box-to-box mode, the existing network including all available WAN access ports is used as a transfer medium for communication by the serial terminal devices. Additional control PCs and special software is not needed, as two Com-Servers ensure a fixed TCP/IP connection of the terminal devices over the network.
Typical applications
- Replacement of out-dated serial star networks - e.g. in mid-range systems
- Serial connections across long distances: A Com-Server pair replaces two line drivers or modems and offers disruption-free transfer due to TCP.
- Implementation of serial connections with frequently changing locations without additional expenditure for cabling.
