Cyber security for USB sharing

USB device servers allow the sharing of USB devices without them being physically connected to a PC. USB redirection can be used to access any (remote) USB device as if it were directly connected. Various security features enable highly secure operation.

VPN by WireGuard

If needed, USB connections can be implemented using VPN (WireGuard). Thanks to the encrypted VPN tunnel, the communication between the USB server and USB Redirector can no longer be viewed from the outside. The USB servers can be configured as VPN clients or servers. Compared to other VPN protocols such as OpenVPN or IPSec, Wireguard is known for its high speed and easy implementation.

Configuring the USB Server as a VPN client

1. Have the config file generated by a WireGuard server (e.g. Fritzbox, Cloud etc.)

2. Activate client mode on the web interface of the USB Server & upload configuration

3. Save, done!

Device & user approvals

With the new approval options for devices and users USB devices can be assigned to individually created users. This ensures that only users who are authorized to use the resource can access a USB device. In addition to an increased security level, there is also assurance that USB devices are not blocked by unauthorized use (because USB access is always exclusive, i.e. never possible for more than one user at a time).

IP firewall

A USB Server-integrated IP firewall defines the computers from which access to the USB server is enabled. The firewall can be contain whitelist explicit release rules (any other communication attempts are then blocked) or define as a blacklist which communication should be blocked.

Encryption

Communication between the USB redirector and the USB server can now be PSK encrypted. The configuration web pages can be called up from the device with HTTPS protection as well.
